Acer Leads PC Market Sales with 27% Market Share in Latest IDC Report

Acer leads the PC Market sales with 27% market share during the rise of stay-at-home work and education according to IDC. Acer had significant shares in three major categories and had seen a remarkable increase in PCs shipped at end of 2021.

The IDC Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker, Q4 2021 shows work from home and digitization drove demand in the private sector. The share of notebooks in the consumer market moved from 73% before the pandemic to 84% in 2021. For the commercial market, the notebook share grew to 69% in 2021.

Acer leads PC Market

On the notebook category, Acer managed to grab a record-high of 33% market share in 2021. This was strengthened by a 30% market share in consumer notebooks and 34% market share in gaming notebooks. While in the consumer branded desktop category, the report reveals 31% market share for the brand. The brand dominates the consumer all-in-one market with a staggering 52% market share in 2021. The company also captured 22% market share in monitors.

While Acer saw continues growth in their shipped PCs year after year, it had its highest increase of a near 30% in PCs shipped by the end of 2021. This strong performance was the result of workforce and learners shifting to online work and education. The company’s position in the IDC 2021 report was also solidified by the brand’s products that provide value for money.

Acer PC Market Shares growth during the pandemic

Pandemic-related quarantines and lockdowns also drove the growth in gaming-and entertainment-related PC sales in the Philippines in 2021. For Acer, sales of gaming notebooks nearly doubled with 113,000 units sold last year from 75,000 in 2020 and 38,000 in 2019.

Semi-conductor shortage due to pandemic

Acer and all PC-related manufacturers have seen and felt the shortage of semiconductors due to the pandemic. According to Acer, the shortage would continue until at least the second quarter of 2022.
