Esports are games that are played on the computer over the internet competitively. These kinds of games are still being abhorred by some adults. Parents to be exact. But now, esports or Electronic Sports is getting the recognition that it needs to be accepted by the eyes that once had aversion to it.
And what better venue to showcase and promote eSports to open the eyes of those who dislike it than the Southeast Asian Games 2019. The Southeast Asian Games is a multi-sport event that involves a total of 9,840 participants from 11 Southeast Asian countries, which will be observed by more than a million people all-over the world.
The new esports category at the SEA Games 2019 will include six esports game titles. The said six titles will include two titles for the console, two for PC, and two for mobile. Mobile Legends was the first title to be revealed as one of the two mobile games. The panel said that the other game titles are under discussion and will be announced once everything is finalized. The reveal is to be expected in the coming months.
Aside from the big reveal of esports being a medal sports at SEA Games 2019, Razer, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, was announced as the official esports partner of the Southeast Asian Games 2019. With their proven solid experience and expertise in the esports scene, Razer will provide hardware, software, and services support for the esports category of SEA Games 2019. Additionally, Razer will be supporting the final crop of Team Philippines eSports athletes who will represent the host country at the finals.
The announcement marked the latest milestone in Razer’s long-running quest to boost the global status of eSports.
“Esports has been the essence of Razer ever since we were founded, and we have supported countless global events, tournaments, teams, and athletes over the past decade and a half,” said Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan. “The sportsmanship and fighting spirit seen in eSports is no less than that of other sports, and we’ve fought hard for its inclusion in an international sporting event like the SEA Games 2019”
The Southeast Asian Games 2019 will be hosted by the Philippines and will have its opening ceremonies at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan on November 30, 2019, while the closing ceremonies will be held at the Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac.
SEA Games 2019 will have 47 venues in three competition hubs systematically situated in Metro Manila, Subic, and Clark.
