Zyxel NBG7510 Unboxing and A Closer Look

The Zyxel NBG7510 comes in standard carton packaging with the front showing a shot of the router as well as its highlighted features.

The packaging contents are as follows:

  • Zyxel NBG7510 Router
  • User Manual
  • Warranty Card
  • Ethernet Cable
  • DC Power Adapter

Unlike other routers, the WiFi Antennas are already pre-installed on the Zyxel NBG7510. Users will have an easy plug-and-play experience as they don’t have to tinker with the router aside from plugging in the ethernet cable(s) and the power adapter.

The Zyxel NBG7510 has decent aesthetics that don’t scream “alien tech” design like most routers nowadays. Its sleek and clean black design can easily blend in the living room or any space in your household.

The large bar on the front serves as your status indicator. Its large enough size may be considered overkill for some however those who aren’t inclined toward tech or the normies will surely appreciate the easy-to-notice LED status indicator. That said, as an enthusiast, I would’ve liked to see more than one LED indicator to help me further troubleshoot and isolate potential problems.

Moving to the back you could see the power button, reset switch, LAN ports and DC-in port. Out of the four LAN ports, the side next to the DC-in serves as your WAN port so you’re left with three LAN ports. While three LAN ports are enough for most people, it would’ve been better if the Zyxel NBG7510 had four usable ports as its pretty much quite the standard for routers – Even the stock Converge ISP router as well as most cheaper routers have four LAN ports apart from the dedicated WAN port.

Zyxel NBG7510 Router Setup

Like most routers, the default SSID, MAC Address, username, and password are located underneath the device. There’s also a QR Code on the label should you set up the Zyxel NBG7510 using the Zyxel Rover app. The Zyxel Rover app is available on both the Google Playstore and Apple Store.

Simply scan the QR code using the Zyxel Rover app to continue with the setup. Note that you mobile phone should be connected to the router via WiFi.

Once detected, you are prompted to enter an admin username and password. This will be used to login within the app or the mobile dashboard and manage the router’s functions and settings.

After the admin login, you can now change the WiFi SSID and password.

On the app, you can monitor the connected devices as well as set limitations such as blocking and bandwidth limits. The app also has a built-in speed test tool where you can do a speed test.

Zyxel NBG7510 Quick Test

Placed in the same room with our ISP-issued stock modem router, the Zyxel NBG7510 easily outperforms the stock router in our quick Ookla speedtest. In the test we used the ONEPLUS 8 PRO as our speed test device as it supports WiFi 6.

Moving away from one room where the router is placed, you could see a more stable performance on the Zyxel NBG7510 with its higher speeds compared to the stock router.

The same is the case when switching to the 5G networks with the Zyxel NBG7510 clearly outperforming the stock router. Our quick tests show the benefit of upgrading your ISP-issued router to maximize your internet subscription as well as having a more seamless browsing experience. Also, there’s a clear improvement in the signal coverage within the household.

Conclusion

Knowing Zyxel from the IT slash corporate space, it’s quite very surprising to see how the brand has managed to create a very easy and hassle-free setup process with its consumer router, the Zyxel NBG7510. Moreover, its intuitive app is very clean and straightforward to use especially for newbies. If you’re the tech guy of the family, then gifting an NBG7510 is a good option as you can easily teach them to navigate through the app and even set it up themselves. That said, for Php 3,000, it can’t satisfy power users especially those looking for a more extensive feature set. However, it’s worth noting that the NBG7510 isn’t intended for those users. At Php 3,000, the Zyxel NBG7510 AX1800 router serves as a great replacement option for your stock router thanks to its seamless setup process, intuitive application, decent performance, and competitive price.
