Inside the box: Synology DS220+

Synology has recently updated its Plus Series lineup with the DS220+, DS420+, DS720+, and DS920+; all of which bring new features to the table.
The new additions to the Plus Series are all equipped with new generation processors and memory modules. While most of the new Plus Series additions have the same physical ports as their predecessors, the DS220+ gains an additional ethernet port that opens a couple of new options such as redundant connection, which increases availability, and link-aggregation, which increases throughput.
Aside from that, with an additional ethernet port, the DS220+ now supports Synology’s High Availability that eliminates business disruptions due to unforeseen circumstances, which can highly affect the business process. This feature can be done by combining two identical Synology NAS servers into one high-availability cluster.
The features mentioned above, especially SHA (Synology High Availability), weren’t available in the DS218+ that we’ve reviewed a few years back, which makes the DS220+ the most recommendable entry-level model for SOHOs that aim for zero downtimes.
